Microblading FAQ

Microblading Questions and Answers

What is microblading?
Microblading is a tattooing technique in which a small handheld tool made of several tiny needles is used to add semi-permanent pigment to the skin.
These needles don’t actually penetrate the skin but just delicately scratch the surface, much like a paper cut. The microneedle deposits featherweight strokes with a medical grade pigment on the epidermis layer for the skin, creating fine, realistic and natural hair strokes.

Microblading, unlike tattooing, is not in the deep layer of skin, but more on the surface. Because the color is not permanent, the color usually starts to fade in about 18 months.

Can you be allergic to microblading?
It is extremely rare to be allergic to the pigment used in microblading but sometimes people may experience sensitivity. A patch test can be done before the treatment to determine if there may be an issue.

How much does microblading cost?
A microblading treatment starts around $500. This includes a consultation, the initial treatment as well as a follow up treatment approximately 6-8 weeks.

What happens when you get your eyebrows microbladed?
The entire process takes about 2 hours. You start with a topical numbing cream. It has to sit about 30-45 minutes. While its working, color and shape are decided upon. Your esthetician will begin to measure around the brow area taking into account the shape of your face and its features.

Once you are numb, the needling process will begin. Color will be deposited with each featherweight stroke into the skin. Your esthetician will continue the process until the brows have taken on the perfect shape.

Next a final layer of pigment will be added for just a few minutes. Theb the area is cleaned up and your and beautiful brows are ready for you to see!

Why is there a follow up session and when does this happen?
The top up session happens after 6-8 weeks. This follow up session takes place about 6-8 weeks after your initial treatment. Any additional strokes that need to be added will be done at this time as well as a darker pigment if desired.

Is there any follow up treatment?
You will leave with follow up care. Below is a list of instructions:
• No picking is always at the top of the list especially if they start flaking.
• No facials, botox, or peels for 4 weeks
• Avoid exercise for 1 week
• Avoid direct sun for 1 week
• Avoid long, steamy showers for 10 days
• Avoid swimming for 10 days
• Don’t wear any make-up or use skincare on your brows until they’ve healed.
• These eyebrows are not the finished product. You have a follow up session.

How long does microblading last?
Microblading lasts anything between 12-18 months all depending on your skin type. People with slightly more oily skin will tend to last about a year before needing a touchup while others with normal skin can last up to 18 months. Regardless of your skin type, all brows will eventually fade away if you don’t continue with top ups every 18 months or so. They will eventually go back to your pre-microblade look if you choose to do nothing.
