We all seek to have that “I woke up like this” look, from finding that foundation that perfectly matches and evens your skin tone to a brow enhancer. The list and techniques are endless. Now there’s a technique to make the process a bit shorter; lip blushing.
Similar to microblading, this semi-permanent pigment-depositing treatment gives the wearer a natural-looking result. And the process has come a long way from the overdone tattooed-on makeup of years past. Lip blushing is meant to give a hint of soft color to your lips as well as enhance their overall shape. This means goodbye to lip stains, tints, glosses, or even lipstick if you choose.
So read on to find out more about this exciting new lip treatment…
What is lip blushing?
Lip blushing is a semi-permanent treatment that infuses lips with tiny dots of pigment lending a natural-looking color that doesn’t smudge or disappear. By depositing the right color into the correct layer of the lip tissue, the lips appear more youthful and even more symmetrical. This wonderful technique can give the lips depth, definition, and dimension without having to touch them up with products throughout the day. In addition, with the right contouring and color shading, lip blushing can give the appearance of more volume making the lips appear fuller.
Lip blushing doesn’t have to replace the need for lipstick as you can still choose to wear your favorite lip products!
Who should perform your lip blushing?
You shouldn’t trust your lips to just anyone. Lip blushing should only be done by a permanent-makeup artist or expert aesthetician. Make sure to research your area to find an experienced lip-blushing artist that has before and after images as well as a large selection of lip tones and shapes that are in line with what you are looking for.
What happens during a lip blushing treatment?
You should first have a consultation with the aesthetician doing your lip blushing to ensure you are on the same page about the details. Also, bring your favorite lip color or liner to get a close match to the shade you want your lips to be.
You want your lips to complement your skin tone especially because your natural undertones directly impact the final result just like hair color.
Next is the shaping process. Your aesthetician will draw an outline of the lips and the area to be blushed with a lip pencil. Keep in mind that some outlining can make lips more symmetrical, but this shape should not extend too far outside of your natural border. The shape is then sealed.
Is lip blushing painful?
Numbing cream will be applied on and around your lips for comfort. The aesthetician will gently deposit the pigment into the first layer of the skin with a special device and a sterile microneedle. This process is also known as pixelating which consists of thousands of dots of pigment placed across your lips to create the “blushing” color. This takes the most time, as it is a very intricate, repetitive, and tedious process. The more layers added and the more saturated the color becomes. This step can take about an hour to complete. When done, your aesthetician will clean your lips and apply some healing balm.
How long does it take to see results?
You can usually see the color after one session. Some people choose to do a touch-up about 6 to 10 weeks later. Your lips will be swollen, dry, and feel tight after the treatment and the color will be at its brightest. You will need to keep the lips moisturized with Vaseline for the next two weeks. Your lips will peel by the end of the first week. It’s very important not to pick or peel them, and to allow the shedding to occur naturally.
After this, you should start to see the beautiful results of lip blushing. Like microblading, it can take up to a month to see the final effects and for your lips to fully heal.
How long does lip blushing last?
Of course, everyone’s lips are different so this answer will vary. On average, you can expect your newly blushed lips to last one to three years. Keep in mind, that the darker the lip blushing color, the longer it lasts. How long also depends on your lifestyle and proper aftercare which includes exfoliating, moisturizing, and protecting the lips from the sun. Lip balm with sunscreen provides great protection without drying out the lips.
What is the cost of lip blushing?
The pricing for a lip blushing treatment will vary from city to city and on the level of your aesthetician’s experience. You should expect to spend at least $500 and up to $1,500. Although this can seem costly, most women who have had lip blushing say the results are worth every penny.
